Restoring Hope

Refugee Resettlement Personal Story

After spending all of her life in a refugee camp, Sara Jahan and her family were able to flee their country and escape religious persecution by coming to the United States. The Jahan’s are devoted Christians who came to America in search of religious freedoms and a better life for their child. With the help of Catholic Charities, the Jahan’s now have a place to call home and a new start at life. Recently doctors have found a hole in Sara’s heart and with the help of Catholic Charities Sara will be able to receive the medical attention she deserves. Refugee and Placement Case Manager, Michael Sorondo, has worked tirelessly to make sure this family has every opportunity to succeed during their new chapter of life in Fresno. “The Jahan’s are the most productive and most loving and giving family that I have served, “says Sorondo.

Personal Story of how we help at Catholic Charities

Nineteen year old, Molly Smith, turned to Catholic Charities in search for a better life. Molly was a victim of domestic violence who wanted a second chance at life for herself and for her 19 month old daughter. When Molly thought things couldn’t be getting worse, she was delegated the responsibility of caring for her two younger siblings while her mother served time in prison. Catholic Charities gave Molly a second chance at life. They provided Molly with the assistance to find an apartment and in turn furnished it for her. They offered clothes, food, and daycare assistance so she could return to school and continue her education. Molly was overwhelmed and thankful for all the kindness and love that she received at Catholic Charities.
